Finding the Ritchie Boys

Time: 4:00 pm til 5:30 pm

Location: Military Heritage Museum, Punta Gorda

Description: Author Kathryn Lang-Slattery will be in our conference center to discuss the Ritchie Boys.

From Wikipedia: The Ritchie Boys were a US special military intelligence unit in World War II composed mainly of German-speaking immigrants to the United States. They were predominantly Jews, most of whom had fled Nazi persecution. They were primarily utilized for interrogation of prisoners on the front lines and counter-intelligence in Europe because of their knowledge of the German language and culture.

Kathryn Lang-Slattery, a published author of fiction and non-fiction for youth, became fascinated with her uncle’s World War II stories and began taping his conversations in 1991. Soon she knew she had found a fascinating untold story of Jewish refugees who became silent heroes. Two decades spent researching, interviewing Ritchie Boys, and turning the true story of her uncle into fiction became an odyssey of discovery that resulted in the novel, Immigrant Soldier, The Story of a Ritchie Boy.
