The Tamiami & Other Projects of Profound & Unintended Consequences

Time: 2:00 pm til 3:00 pm

Location: Collier County Museum, Naples

Description: South Florida has had a reputation for being a difficult place to traverse. When the Tamiami Trail completed in 1928, it was hailed as a great feat of engineering and fully opened southwest Florida for development. Its construction, however, fundamentally changed the south Florida landscape. This was not the first or the last time human civic projects have left their mark. From the Calusa onwards, humans have ensured that wild Florida isn't so wild after all. Program by Melissa Timo, Florida Public Archaeology Network. Program will begin at 2 p.m. Free admission. Reservations suggested. For more information, please call (239) 252-8738.
