May 13, 2015
Collier County Museum

With the advent of the Model T- or the "Tin Lizzie, as it was also known – America’s love affair with the road trip was born. Starting in the 1920s, every-day citizens could explore Florida’s out-of-the-way sites and scenery in every-thing from modified automobiles to sophisticated campers. In response to the new demands, specialized equipment was developed, roadside attractions founded, fraternal groups were founded, and landscapes altered to construct comfortable trailer parks. Come and learn how tin cans and Royal Can Openers helped to shape the Florida we know today. Program by Melissa Timo, Florida Public Archaeology Network. Program begins at 2 p.m. Free admission. Reservations suggested. For more information, please call (239) 252-8738.
