Tamiami Trail Celebration

Time: 10:00 am til 3:00 pm

Location: Museum of the Everglades, Everglades City

Description: The Tamiami Trail is no ordinary road. Finished in 1928, the narrow strip of highway cut across one of the most inaccessible and remote parts of the country and joined Florida’s east and west coasts for the first time in history. Join us in celebrating the 87th anniversary of the completion of Florida’s Appian Way with a motorcade of antique automobiles, and a full day of educational programs and activities in Everglades City, Collier County’s original county seat. Event Schedule:

10am- 11am: Historic Walking Tour of Everglades City led by the Friends of Museum of the Everglades.

11am – Noon: Lecture “The Tamiami Trial and Other Projects of Profound and Unintended Consequence: The Archaeology of How Humans Have Shaped the Southwest Florida Landscape” by Melissa Timo, Florida Public Archaeology Network, SW Region in the Carol Mossman Lecture Hall.
