He Gave Thee the Keys: Christopher Columbus Opens the World’s Doors

Time: 2:00 pm til 3:00 pm

Location: Collier County Museum, Naples

Description: Columbus Day commemorates the “discovery” of America by Europeans. Italian Christopher Columbus devised a plan to sail westward to find an alternate route to riches of the Indies. Ferdinand and Isabella, the Sovereigns of Spain, agreed to support his enterprise. Columbus landed on a Caribbean Island in October of 1492. During the first voyage Columbus carved out a path between the “Old” and “New” Worlds. By his fourth, and final, voyage in 1502 the Columbian Exchange guaranteed the proliferation of the Modern Age. Explore results, both positive and negative, of Columbus’ endeavors. Program by Pam Miner, Museum Assistant, Collier County Museum. Free admission. Reservations required.
