Native Americans of the Everglades

Time: 7:00 pm til 8:30 pm

Location: Clewiston, Museum in downtown Clewiston Florida

Description: Palm Beach County archaeologist Chris Davenport will discuss the ancient Native Americans who lived in and around the Everglades. Archaeologists refer to these people as the Belle Glade peoples. This lecture will be an overview of some of the most impressive and yet least understood sites in all of Florida. We will examine massive earthworks like Ft. Center, Tony’s Mound and Big Mound City, address the implications of the Boyer Survey of Lake Okeechobee and discuss the findings and inferences from smaller forgotten sites within the former Everglades.
