Shot and Shell Tell the Tale: Battlefield and Conflict Archaeology

Time: 6:30 pm til 7:30 pm

Location: Bowden Building, 120 Church Street, Pensacola, FL 32502

Description: Warfare is as old as mankind. Studies of conflict are almost as old as warfare itself, but systematic archaeological investigations of the field of conflict is a relatively new field, only a bit over thirty years old. There are numerous worldwide studies that are changing the face of how conflict and war are seen and studied by using archaeological methods. Site specific studies, and detailed artifact analyses are the epitome of battlefield archaeology and we are now beginning to see broad patterns in data that bring a great insight and understanding to specific events and conflict in general. Dr. Scott will present several example to illustrate how physical evidence of battles can build a more complete understanding of past events. He will also give a couple of examples of how the techniques of conflict archaeology have been used in support of forensic and international human rights investigations.

This event is FREE and open to the public!
