World War II Training on St. George Island Workshop

Time: 9:00 am til 10:00 am

Location: 1900 E. Gulf Beach Drive St. George Island, Florida 32328

Description: Come out and learn how St. George Island was used to train a quarter of a million soldiers from Camp Gordon Johnston during World War II. A member of the Camp Gordon Johnston World War II Museum will discuss how St. George Island was used in the soldier’s training.

Participants can bring a breakfast item to share if they would like. Coffee is provided by the Friends of Franklin County State Parks.

Program is free with paid park entry.

Primitive Weapons Program at Mission San Luis

Time: 10:00 am til 4:00 pm

Location: Mission San Luis 2100 W. Tennessee St. Tallahassee, Fl

Description: Mission San Luis has a very active primitive weapons program that includes not only archery but also atlatl. Their hands-on program is every Saturday from 10am till 4pm, it is $5 for admission to the museum, and there is no charge to participate in the primitive weapons program. The Mission has had the program for a year and a half. In the last twelve months there have been over 4,000 people participate in archery alone. The atlatl program started about six months ago with almost 1,000 people participating so far. Mission San Luis is now in the application process to join The World Atlatl Association.
