PAST Monthly Meeting

Description: March is archaeology month in Florida! In recognition of this year's theme, Destination: Civil War, Dr. Guy Prentice, Archeologist with the National Park Service’s, Southeast Archeological Center, will discuss field work he has conducted at the notorious Civil War Prison in Andersonville, Ga.



During 1987, 1989, and 1990, the National Park Service funded extensive excavations at the Civil War prison camp at Andersonville, GA. A summary of the results of these excavations is presented and includes data on the construction techniques used in the original building of the prison stockade by slaves, the later addition to the prison stockade built by the Union prisoners, the north gate, and an attempted escape tunnel that failed
before completion.
