Apalachicola Anchors Workshop

Time: 10:00 am til 4:00 pm

Location: Apalachicola Maritime Museum, 103 Water Street, Apalachicola

Description: Ever noticed how many old anchors are laying around in Apalachicola? Ever wonder about their history? Join us for a day all about anchors! the day will start with a presentation all about identifying the parts of an anchor and what those parts can tell us about their history. Then in the afternoon help us record the anchors around town so that they can be entered in the world-wide Big Anchor Project Database. The lecture starts at 10am and is open to everyone, the recording will start at 1pm and space is limited. For the afternoon recording please register in advance to participate by emailing Barbara Hines at bhines@uwf.edu.

Anhaica Apalachee and de Sotos Winter Encampment

Time: 5:00 pm til 8:00 pm

Location: Museum of Florida History, R.A. Gray Building, Tallahassee

Description: Thursday, January 19, 2012, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Museum of Florida History (R.A. Gray Building, 500 S. Bronough St. Tallahassee) Daniel Seinfeld will be presenting, "Anhaica Apalachee and de Soto's Winter Encampment: A New Look at an Old Site. His presentation will start at 7, but come early for music by Stranger Still and food catered by Los Amigos (food is $10 for members, $15 for non-members). Admission and Parking are free and the museum gift shop will be open as well!

Public Meeting: Proposed Recreational Cave Diving at Wakulla Springs

Description: The Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service will host a public workshop on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 to hear from the public regarding the proposed inclusion of recreational cave diving at Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park.

The Florida Park Service is examining proposals to provide recreational cave diving in Wakulla Spring. In an effort to solicit the views of the local community, the park’s citizen support organization and other park stakeholders, public comment will be taken before formally proposing the addition of cave diving in Wakulla Spring. Interested parties unable to attend the public workshop on Jan. 19 may send written comments to the Division of Recreation and Parks’ Office of Park Planning, 3900 Commonwealth Blvd, Mailstation 525, Tallahassee, FL 32399.
