Rare, Beautiful & Fascinating Teacher Training

Time: 1:30 am til 4:30 pm

Location: Florida Museum of Natural History, 3215 Hull Road Gainesville, FL 32611

Description: **This training is for Alachua County Public Schools fourth-grade teachers only**

Thanks to the generosity of the Florida Museum Associates along with the support of the school district, Alachua County Public Schools fourth-graders will explore the Rare, Beautiful & Fascinating: 100 Years @FloridaMuseum exhibit, participate in standards-based classroom activities and explore other Museum exhibits during a two-hour field trip.

In preparation for the field trips, fourth-grade teachers in this training will:

Explore the Rare, Beautiful & Fascinating exhibit.
Preview activities that can be used before and after field trips.
Receive resources to use in the classroom.
Become familiar with the logistics for making a successful Museum field trip.
Earn in-service points.

National Estuaries Day

Time: 9:00 am til 12:00 pm

Location: 3266 North Sailboat Avenue, Crystal River, Florida 34428

Description: Come celebrate National Estuaries Day in a unique way – on the estuary! Learn about local estuarine communities, their importance, and the critters that call them home!

Free event! Guided boat tours from the Crystal River Preserve State Park to the Marine Science Station every 30 Minutes. Fun for the whole family with kids activities! Tour the Marine Science Station Aquarium with live specimens and interactive displays.

Due to limited parking, Visitors MUST meet at the Crystal River Preserve State Park [3266 North Sailboat Avenue, Crystal River, Florida 34428] for vehicle parking. Guided boat rides will take visitors to and from the Marine Science Station.

Rare, Beautiful & Fascinating: 100 Years @Florida Museum

Description: In 2017, the Florida Museum marks its 100th anniversary as the state’s official natural history museum. Join us for a celebration of our newest exhibit and explore the key role museum collections play in telling the story of life on Earth.

Enjoy this free, fun-for-all-ages event with hands-on activities and displays celebrating the opening of the Museum’s newest featured exhibit:
Rare, Beautiful & Fascinating: Sept. 23, 2017-Jan. 7, 2018

From rare, ancient treasures to cutting-edge technologies, the exhibit showcases the Museum’s 17 collections and research initiatives that address topics from extinction to biodiversity. Visitors may interact with scientists working in the lab from a different collection each week, explore the institution’s rich history and learn how the Museum has affected the lives of students, volunteers, employees and donors.

Objects from the Museum’s 40 million specimens also reveal the stories of everything from coral reefs to human health to prehistoric life. Discover ways science has changed over time, and how the Florida Museum remains committed to addressing future critical world issues, including biodiversity, climate change, invasive
