Description: “Fierce People” – The Archaeology of the Calusa
This lecture will cover the documentary and archaeological evidence of our area’s first residents. Learn about what life was like here from just after the last Ice Age, through the development of the Calusa, until their downfall after the fateful arrival of Juan Ponce de Leon and the Spanish. Hear about local archaeological sites, what their interesting new research tells us about the first Floridians, and which ones are open for the public to explore!
