Second Saturday Archaeology: Innovators of the Archaic

Description: In an era of rising sea levels, changing environments, and increasing populations, Florida's Archaic People test out and adapted to new technologies and new ways of life.  Learn about area sites and artifacts that help archaeologists learn how these people shaped 7,000 years of prehistoric Florida culture. 26th Annual Old Florida Festival

Time: 10:00 am til 5:00 pm

Location: Collier County Museum, Naples

Description: Admission is $10 for adults; $8 for Friends Members and Seniors; $5 for children 10 -18; children under 10 are free.rnrnTime travel back over 10,000 years of South Florida history at one of the largest and most popular living history gatherings in the state. This two-day festival features over 90 historical reenactors, craftworkers, demonstrators, folk musicians and storytellers depicting everyday life on the Southwest Florida frontier, from Calusa and Seminole Indians to World War II. This year’s event includes a Spanish fort and garrison, complete with mounted Conquistadors, cannons, a missionary, displays and a Spanish colonial cooking demonstration. Lecture: Who made the Everglades

Time: 5:00 pm til 6:00 pm

Location: Shark Valley Visitor Center

Description: This talk will explore the geological and cultural history of the Everglades. In particular, we will look at the role of early Native Americans and initial tree island formations.
