Heritage Hikes: Garcon Point

Time: 9:30 am til 10:00 am

Location: Garcon Point South Trail, 654 Avalon Boulevard, Milton, FL

Description: Join FPAN on this 1.5-mile stroll down the Garcon Point South Hiking Trail! This tour will highlight local archaeological resources, focusing on the area's Native American heritage. Participants will learn about Native American history in Northwest Florida, what archaeology can tell us about pre-contact Native American sites, and how we can preserve and protect these non-renewable cultural resources.

Hikers will meet at entrance to the Garcon Point South Hiking Trail (654 Avalon Boulevard, Milton, FL) at 9:30am for a brief introductory presentation followed by a guided hike in the Park. This tour is offered for free and is limited to 30 participants; RSVP with mthomin@uwf.edu to join! Hikers should dress for the weather and wear close-toed shoes. Drinking water is recommended.

Vitual Heritage Monitoring Scouts Training

Time: 6:00 pm til 8:00 pm

Location: Virtual Training

Description: Heritage Monitoring Scouts (HMS Florida) is a public engagement program focused on tracking changes to archaeological sites at risk, particularly those impacted by climate change in the form of erosion and sea level rise. The public is encouraged to apply to the program and will receive monthly updates on training and resources available for HMS Florida participants statewide.
