Description: Join FPAN on this hour-long stroll down trails in Oak Tree Nature Park to celebrate International Archaeology Day! This tour will highlight local archaeological resources, focusing on the area's Native American heritage. Participants will learn about Native American history in Northwest Florida, what archaeology can tell us about pre-contact Native American sites, and how we can preserve and protect these non-renewable cultural resources.
Hikers will meet at the Oak Tree Nature Park pavilion (707 E Hollywood Blvd, Mary Esther, FL 32569) at 9:00am for a brief introductory presentation followed by a guided hike in the Park. This tour is offered for free and is limited to 30 participants; RSVP with mthomin@uwf.edu to join! Hikers should dress for the weather and wear close-toed shoes. Drinking water is recommended.
