Underwater Archaeology for Kids!

Time: 2:00 pm til 3:00 pm

Location: Online w/ Bay County Public Library

Description: Join us for "Underwater Archaeology for Kids: Discovering Stories from the Past!" by FPAN Public Archaeologist Nicole Grinnan. This virtual presentation is co-hosted by the Bay County Public Library for their Summer Reading Program!

Archaeologists work in a variety of settings and underwater is one of the “coolest,” literally and figuratively! Learn about how archaeologists work in this alien environment, the types of sites they study (hint: it’s not just shipwrecks!), the issues and problems facing underwater archaeological sites, and the ways underwater archaeologists discover stories from the past!

This presentation is most appropriate for ages 6-12, but all are welcome.

Zoom into Archaeology: 1821 - The Floridians

Time: 3:30 pm til 4:30 pm

Location: Online; Central Time

Description: Join us for the next installment of FPAN's "Zoom into Archaeology" series: "1821: The Floridians" by UWF Archaeology Institute Archaeologist Margo Stringfield!

When Florida passed from Spanish to American governance, Pensacola already had a diverse population of French, Spanish, free people of color, and enslaved people. The arrival of Anglo-Americans added to the mix. We see much of this early diversity reflected in our modern community today. We are all Floridians! Join us to explore who these people were and what they left behind.

This presentation is most appropriate for teens and adults, but is family-friendly.
