Zoom into Archaeology: Shipwreck Narratives and the Act of Cannibalism

Time: 3:30 pm til 4:30 pm

Location: Online; Central Daylight Time

Description: Join us for the next installment of FPAN's "Zoom into Archaeology" series: "'The Most Delicious Thing She Had Ever Tasted': Shipwreck Narratives and the Act of Cannibalism" by UWF Department of History Chair Dr. Amy Mitchell-Cook. This September, we proud to feature presentations from faculty and researchers at the UWF!

Those who went to sea often experienced shipwreck, and many were left stranded to await their fate. In the most desperate act, some turned to eating their shipmates as a means to survive. The act of survival cannibalism was one of the most terrifying aspects of sailing across vast oceans. Join us to learn about survivors' narratives and how their stories were received at home. Some of the content and images during this presentation might be a bit challenging for modern sensibilities....but, rest assured, there will be no live demonstrations!

"Zoom into Archaeology" is a free online series that features a short presentation by an archaeologist via Zoom and an opportunity for participants to ask questions at the end of the presentation. Space is limited, however, and a password will be required for access. RSVP via the link below.
