Description: Heritage Monitoring Scouts (HMS Florida) is a public engagement program focused on tracking changes to archaeological sites at risk, particularly those impacted by climate change in the form of erosion and sea level rise.
Join Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN) staff for this fun workshop to learn how to become a Heritage Monitoring Scout! We will talk about threats to archaeological sites, how to identify some common site types and artifacts, and the best way to record and monitor them. This workshop includes presentations in the morning, a break for lunch, and some site monitoring practice in the afternoon hosted by Gulf Islands National Seashore!
This event is free and open to the public! We expect space to fill up fast, so please RSVP with Nicole Grinnan at 850.595.0050 ext 103 or at ngrinnan@uwf.edu to save your spot or for more information. This workshop is most appropriate for ages 12+. Morning presentations will take place at the FPAN Coordinating Center (207 E Main Street, Pensacola, FL) and the afternoon monitoring session will take place in Gulf Islands National Seashore's Naval Live Oaks area (1801 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, FL).
