Vanishing Sail: Film Screening and Panel Discussion

Time: 5:00 pm til 7:30 pm

Location: Voices of Pensacola Multicultural Center, 117 E Government St, Pensacola, FL 32502

Description: Join FPAN and UWF Historic Trust for a film screening and panel discussion of the award winning documentary "Vanishing Sail." Refreshments and heavy h'dourves will be provided to attendees.

About the film:

"On the island of Carriacou, West Indies, the last wooden sailboat builder dreams of saving a great tradition passed down the generations from Scottish settlers that sailed here centuries ago.

The film follows Alywn Enoe’s journey of resilience and determination over three years, from hauling trees with his sons, to a final traditional launching ceremony. Stories of the old Caribbean - trading by sail and smuggling contraband interweave a tribute to the independent spirit of a small island community."

About the discussion panel:

Immediately following the film a panel of experts from the University of West Florida's Department of History, UWF Division of Anthropology and Archaeology, and the Askew Institute for Multidisciplinary Studies will discuss different aspects of maritime landscapes and traditions.
