Description: Join us for "Maritime Archaeology with the National Park Service," presented by Dr. David W. Morgan! Dr. Morgan, a Mobile-native, directs the Southeast Archeological Center in Tallahassee, Florida, for the National Park Service. He will present an overview of their new dive program, which includes work on the badly looted English China Wreck (a mid 18th-century merchant vessel carrying a load of English white salt-glazed and Whieldon tablewares), the recently and purposefully reburied HMS Fowey (a 5th-rate ship-of-the-line frigate that sank in 1748), DRTO-22 (an unnamed mid-18th century vessel discovered last summer), and research on the trans-Atlantic slave trade via the Slave Wrecks Project of South Africa.
Sponsored by the Southwest Chapter of the Alabama Archaeological Society and USA Archaeology Museum. Free and open to everyone. For more information contact Bonnie Gums, 251-460-6562 or bgums@southalabama.edu
