Submerged Sites Education and Awareness (SSEAS) Workshop

Time: 8:00 am til 5:00 pm

Location: Biscayne National Park

Description: After taking the 4-day SSEAS program, recreational divers will be trained to recognize historic shipwrecks and cultural sites, to record sites using photography and hand-drawn site plans, and to fill out National Park Service and Florida State archaeological site recording forms.

The program includes one day of classroom training, one day of training in confined water, and two days of open water training on a historic shipwreck in Biscayne National Park. Upon completion, participants will
receive an FPAN Certificate of Training. A SDI Specialty Certification is also possible.

Once training is complete, SSEAS divers are able to independently perform tasks associated with monitoring and protecting submerged historic sites, and will be armed with the knowledge necessary to search for and record undiscovered shipwrecks in Biscayne National Park and elsewhere!

All participants MUST bring their own SCUBA gear, including weights. Tanks will be provided. This course will be offered at no cost by the Cultural Resources Stewardship Program of Biscayne National Park.
