Battle of Fort Mims Reenactment and Event
Time: 9:00 am til 3:00 pm
Location: Tensaw, Alabama: 12 miles North of Stockton on Hwy. 59, then West 3 miles on Co. Rd. 80
Description: On Saturday and Sunday, August 30 and 31 a living history encampment and reenactment commemorating the August 30, 1813 battle will take place at historic Fort Mims Park. Other events include displays and crafts from the early 1800s including period music, Creek Indian games, rides on covered wagons, and demonstrations of blacksmithing, basket making, wool spinning, quilting, and flintnapping. The Battle of Fort Mims will be reenacted at 2:00 pm Saturday.
Artifacts from Fort Mims will be on display and University of South Alabama’s Center for Archaeological Studies will have an exhibit table about their excavations at the fort. There will also be talks about the fort’s history, including Dr. Greg Waselkov, director of USA’s Archaeology Center.
Historic Fort Mims Park is located 12 miles north of Stockton in north Baldwin County, Alabama. Follow Highway 59 12 miles north from Stockton, then take County Road 80 (at the flashing yellow light) 3 miles west to the park. There will be concession stands and you may want to bring lawn chairs. This event is free, but donations are accepted. For more information go to www.fortmims.org.
