Discover Ancient Technology: The Atlatl

Description: Ever wonder what prehistoric Floridians used before the invention of the bow and arrow? Come learn about the atlatl, a fascinating piece of prehistoric technology used to hunt everything from ancient woolly mammoths to modern squirrels on Aug. 15, 2013 from 10a.m. to 11 a.m.

A short lecture inside the Florida Public Archaeology Network Coordinating Center in downtown Pensacola will explain the origins and mechanics of this dart-throwing device. Next, participants can try their hand at using it during our atlatl demonstration outside, weather permitting. rnrnThis program is free and open to the public.
