Teacher Training: Archaeology in the Classroom

Time: 8:00 am til 3:00 pm

Location: FPAN Coordinating Center, 207 East Main Street, Pensacola, FL 32591

Description: Archaeology is an extremely multidisciplinary social science, providing opportunities for teachers to incorporate archaeological information, methods, and ideas into science, history, language arts, math, social studies, and art curricula.

The Florida Public Archaeology Network is pleased to present 1-day In-Service workshops to assist teachers with archaeology-based training, lesson plans, activities, and projects. All information and curricula presented directly relate to FCAT requirements and Sunshine State Standards. Lesson plans, hands-on activities, topics for discussion and writing assignments, and materials for classroom use are provided as part of the In-Service so educators can expose students to the excitement of archaeology while teaching the basics.

FPAN’s In-Service workshops are free, although space is limited so sign up today!
While the In-Service is targeted toward middle school teachers, upper-level elementary and high school teachers are welcome.

Archaeology Lab Volunteer Day

Time: 9:30 am til 3:30 pm

Location: FPAN Coordinating Center, 207 East Main Street, Pensacola, FL 32591

Description: The FPAN Archaeology Lab is open to volunteers throughout the year. Volunteers help rough sort artifacts found from local archaeological sites. No experience is needed, as we give all volunteers a brief orientation and training their first time. Volunteer days are perfect for students needing hours for scholarships, individuals and groups interested in history and archaeology, as well as those wanting to get their hands dirty!

All ages are encouraged to participate; we ask that anyone under 16 years of age is accompanied by an adult. We can accommodate individuals, families, and groups as large as 12.

Please contact Irina Sorset,
isorset@uwf.edu, if you would like
to volunteer and arrange a day and
time.
