Collections Preservation Workshop

Time: 2:00 pm til 4:00 pm

Location: Bay County Public Library 898 W. 11th St, Panama City

Description: ***Please note that the times listed here are in Central Time

When a natural disaster or other emergency strikes, collections held by museums, libraries, historical societies, arboreta, municipal offices, and other cultural institutions can be damaged or lost. Knowing how to respond immediately, whether to a pipe burst or a hurricane, can help safeguard collections and enable cultural institutions to continue fulfilling their mission. Following a major disaster, knowing how to apply for federal disaster assistance for much-needed recovery funding may make the difference between re-opening the doors or closing permanently.

Preservation experts from the Smithsonian Institution and FEMA will present a workshop for stewards of cultural institutions at the Bay County Public Library in Panama City on Tuesday afternoon, March 19, to discuss initial steps to take, mold and personal safety, salvage techniques, disaster planning, and response and recovery resources. The program will include a demonstration on how to handle and stabilize damaged objects and an explanation of the Public Assistance program, which provides federal disaster assistance to private nonprofits.

FPAN is posting this event as a courtesy, we will neither be hosting nor attending this event.
