If you’ve ever had questions about how radiocarbon dating works or how scientists deal with variation in carbon levels over time, this is your chance to learn more!

ABSTRACT: Radiocarbon dating of carbon-bearing materials is the most widely used absolute dating tool for the latest Quaternary, covering the last approximately 100,000 years. Conversion of radiocarbon ages to calendar years involves several calibration and correction factors, each of which introduces a degree of uncertainty. Radiocarbon ages are calibrated to account for: (1) changes in the production rate of C-14 in the upper atmosphere, caused by fluctuations in solar radiation intensity and/or geomagnetic magnetic field strength (the DeVries Effect);
