Time: 9:00 am til 4:00 pm

Location: Paynes Creek Historic State Park, 888 Lake Branch Road Bowling Green FL 33834

Description: Join us for the 12th Annual Fort Chokonikla Reenactment on March 9-10th, 2019 at Paynes Creek Historic State Park in Bowling Green, Florida. The encampment and reenactment takes place near the actual site of Paynes Creek trade store massacre and Fort Chokonikla, which was built shortly after. This signature Fort Chokonikla Encampment Reenactment event runs from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm on both days with reenactments scheduled at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.

The Fort Chokonikla Reenactment, which is recreated by staff and volunteers, reveals the sequence of events that occurred on July 17, 1849. In late 1849, Fort Chokonikla was built in close proximity to the trading post as the first outpost in a chain of forts established to control the Seminoles in Florida. The story comes to life through living history narration providing a wonderful learning experience for the entire family.

The Fort Chokonikla Reenactment features black powder demonstrations, period-specific arts and crafts vendors, and children's activities. Food vendors will be on site to provide refreshments and various forms of food.

$3 per motor vehicle. $2 for pedestrians and bicyclists. NO ADDITIONAL COST for the event
