Location: Sweetwater Park / MATHESON HISTORY MUSEUM 513 E University Avenue Gainesville FL 32601

Description: Saturday, August 15, 2015, 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m., FREE
Join us August 15th for a reenactment of the Battle of Gainesville, a Civil War battle that took place in what is now Sweetwater Park behind the Matheson History Museum. Come early to ensure a good viewing spot. John McLean leads a group of dedicated Civil War reenactors in a solemn recreation of the battle. Reenactors camp out in Sweetwater Park the night before the event. Over 75 reenactors will recreate the Battle of Gainesville, which erupted in the heart of downtown Gainesville on August 17, 1864. The band Seven Lbs. of Bacon will play authentic Civil War music. This event is free and open to the public.

Visit Sweetwater Park on Friday, August 14 to browse the reenactors’ camp and learn about the daily rituals of the men who fought in the Civil War. Civil War-era wagons and historically accurate uniforms, clothing, equipment and rations will be on display
