Learn About Paleo Florida from Archeologist Steve Koski

Time: 7:00 pm til 8:30 pm

Location: The Historic Citrus County Courthouse and Heritage Museum, One Courthouse Square, Invernes

Description: Travel back in time to the Paleo Period in Florida!
What were humans doing in Florida six-thousand years ago? Ten-thousand years ago? What animals were roaming a state then almost twice its current size? What was left behind by the people who co-existed with these creatures we’ve never experienced?
Come find out!
Archaeologist Steve Koski, a Research Associate and Site Manager at Little Salt Spring archaeological site in Sarasota county, will share research findings that begin to answer questions about the earliest Florida residents.
The Little Salt Spring site is phenomenally important not only in Florida, but also globally, because artifacts that would normally not survive ten millennia have been preserved underwater in the spring. The preserved artifacts and subsequent archaeological research at Little Salt Spring allow us a rare and fascinating look at life in the Paleo Period.
Join us for Steve’s compelling talk and celebrate Florida Archaeology Month 2014. This event is free of charge and brought to the public by the Citrus County Historical Society and the Florida Public Archaeology Network Central Regional Center.
