Crystal River Raid (Civil War Re-enactment)

Time: 9:00 am til 4:00 pm

Location: Seven miles north of Crystal River

Description: The 2013 Crystal River Raid will be held at the property of the Holcim Mine, located seven miles north of Crystal River (just south of the Barge Canal bridge). Education day will be held on Friday, March 8th. Reenactments for the general public will be held on Saturday and Sunday, March 10th and 11th. Gates open at 9:00 AM and activities are continuous throughout the day, culminating in a clash of forces each afternoon at 2 PM. The camps will remain open to the public until 4:00 PM each day. Please consult the Schedule of Events for a more specific timetable. Entry donation is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for students, ages 9 to 17. Children 8 and under are admitted free of charge. Homosassa Heritage Day

Time: 10:00 am til 4:00 pm

Location: Homosassa State Wildlife Park

Description: -- Take a walk back in time as we reminisce about Homosassa’s early days –

Whether you are an area resident, a visitor interested in the history of Homosassa, or a former employee of the attraction or park, you will enjoy a step back in time Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. This year, the park will collaborate with Citrus County Historical Society, Florida Archaeological Society, Crystal River Archaeological State Park, Homosassa River Garden Club, and other local groups to present this annual event with sponsorship by the Citrus County Chronicle and the Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park. Homosassa Heritage Day exhibits and activities will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Displays of historic photos of the Homosassa area and Homosassa Springs Attraction will be on display to enjoy. There will be no charge for the programs and exhibits in the Florida Room. Regular admission will apply for entrance into the Wildlife Park.

An Overview of the Fort King Historic Area

Presentation: An Overview of the Fort King Historic Area
Gary Ellis, Archaeologist, and Director of Gulf Archaeology Research Institute (GARI) will host a Meet and Greet at the Marion County Alliance from 11:00 to 3:00 p.m. on March 9, 2013. He will give an overview of the Fort King Historic Area’s progress to date with the development of the historic park. Gary Ellis will have select artifacts from his excavations at the Fort King National Historic Landmark.
