Description: HIS II - Seminar in the Historic Archaeology
of the Seminole War Period
The Gulf Archaeology Research Institute (GARI) is pleased to announce that it is offering our HIS II – Historic Archaeology of the Seminole War Period course. This academic course is designed to provide an overview of America's longest running conflict and will cover the events leading up to and including the First Seminole War (1818-1832), the Second Seminole War (1835-1842), the Third Seminole War (1841-1854), and the aftermath (Post-1854).
The course will address the major periods of the Florida Wars, major personalities, battles, significant sites, various diverse military, Seminole, Black Seminole, and pioneer life ways, and technology. The course is tailored for college students, seniors, teachers, and lifelong students having a serious interest in social science, anthropology, and archaeology. The course will be taught by Gary D. Ellis, director of GARI who brings over 30 years as a practicing professional archaeologist to the classroom. Gary is currently employed as the director of the Gulf Archaeology Research Institute and currently engaged in the archaeology and history of the Seminole War
