Crystal River Revisited Times Four: What We Still Don't Know (and Wan

Time: 1:00 pm til 2:00 pm

Location: Crystal River Archaeology State Park 3400 North Museum Point Crystal River, FL 34428

Description: Dr. Brent Weisman (USF) will kick off 2011 Florida archaeology month with a presentation at the 14 acre Crystal River Archaeological State Park. This park is the location of one of the most extensive prehistoric ceremonial complexes on Florida’s Gulf Coast. The site was occupied for approximately 1,400 years (500 B.C to AD 900), by people of the Deptford and Weeden Island cultures. Since 1903, beginning with the investigations of Clarence B. Moore, generations of archaeologists have been fascinated with the site and have continued to study the burial customs, political organization, and subsistence patterns of the people that lived and worshiped here. Join us at 1:00 O’clock March 5, to hear highlights of over 100 years of archaeology, and the directions of future research at the Crystal River site. This presentation is free to the public.

FPAN is hosting this event.
